Who should attend?

All drivers who carry explosives. This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Australian Code for the Transport of Explosives (Clause 8.4.3.)

Note: The dangerous goods drivers licence is a prerequisite for the explosives licence.

  • Marking of Packages
  • HAZCHEM Code
  • Placarding of Vehicles, Freight Container, Carry Boxes and IBC’s
  • Stowage and Segregation
  • Transport Procedures
  • Characteristics and Hazards of Explosives Divisions 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 ,1.5 and 1.6
  • Fire Extinguisher training
  • Documentation

 

Assessment

To be found competent in this unit, a trainee must achieve an 80% average across 2 individual multiple choice tests. These tests are ‘open book’. He must also demonstrate competence in a Practical Assessment utilising simulated examples relevant to actual industry Explosives Transport operations and the theoretical and practical use of fire extinguishers.

Outcome

On successful completion of the course you will receive a Statement of Attainment from:

TLI D3015A - Identify and Label Explosives and Dangerous Goods
TLI D2016A - Load and Unload Explosives and Dangerous Goods

Please note:

  • This qualification in itself does not authorise you to transport Explosives. To renew the LICENCE you will need to attach this Statement of Attainment to your Application Form to The Dept of Mines and Petroleum and comply with all other requirements (e.g. Police Clearance and Medical Certificate). If your Explosives Licence has expired, you are not authorised to transport explosives
  • Explosives Drivers also must carry a current Federal Security Clearance from the Federal Police
