Load Restraint

WARTA’s Load Restraint course provides a practical understanding of the guidelines and performance standards for the safe cartage of goods and cargo on road vehicles.

Who should attend

This course is intended for drivers and persons involved in and responsible for the safe loading of vehicles and the restraint of those loads.

Course Content

This is a theory and practical based course which includes training and assessment in the following:

  • Load Restraint Guide
  • Legislation, Responsibilities
  • Forces which cause movement
  • Tie down and direct systems of restraint
  • Load distribution
  • Load limitations
  • Load securing equipment
  • Occupational health and safety requirements
  • Performance standards
  • Minimum restraint requirements
  • Dangerous Goods requirements
  • Oversize loads
  • Loading general freight

On successful completion of this course, students are issued a Statement of Attainment for the following unit(s) of competency:

  • TLIA1001 Secure cargo
  • TLID2004 Load and unload goods/cargo

These units form part of TLI31216 – Certificate III in Driving Operations

Delivery Location

All scheduled courses are conducted at the premises of Training Course Experts (TCE) – 3 Aberdeen Street, Northbridge WA 6003.

  • Participants of this course receive a copy of WARTA’s Load Restraint Guide for Drivers and Loaders, which contains selected content from NTC’s Load Restraint Guide, Second Edition 2004.
  • Tea and coffee facilities are available.
Dress Standards / Other Info
  • Suitable work attire including closed in shoes must be worn for the duration of the course.
  • Participants must provide their own gloves for the practical exercise, should they wish to use them.
  • Hi-Vis and/or steel toe boots are not required.


Unique Student Identifier (USI) Information

Participants of this course must be able to provide a Unique Student Identifier on the day of training.


Present at least one of the following identification documents and complete additional paperwork on the day to have a USI created for them:

  • Driver’s Licence
  • Medicare Card
  • Australian Passport
  • Non-Australian Passport (with Australian Visa)
  • Birth Certificate (Australian)
  •  Certificate Of Registration By Descentƒ
  • Citizenship Certificateƒ
  • Immi Card

Language Literacy and Numeracy

Courses offered by WARTA require students to have a basic level of Literacy and Numeracy skills and knowledge to be able to read and interpret information from reference materials, complete basic mathematical equations and write in English to complete assessments. If you have any difficulties, please advise our office at your earliest convenience prior to training or assessment, so that we may arrange appropriate assistance.
